Weekly one-on-one sessions which are 50 minutes long. We look at what's driving the use, what keeps getting in the way of stopping, and what a realistic path forward actually looks like for you — not in theory, but given your life, your history, and your circumstances.
I work at your pace, but I don't let things drift. If something important comes up, we address it.
Modalities I offer:
Living with someone in active addiction is exhausting. The anger, the worry, the cycles of hope and disappointment — that's real, and it deserves its own space. Family sessions are not just about supporting the person in treatment. They're for the people around them too.
I work with spouses, partners, parents, and adult children — sometimes alongside individual treatment, sometimes independently. I'm direct about what's helping and what isn't, including the family patterns and dynamics.
Focus areas can include:
Relapse is not the same as failure. This work is about understanding what happened, what the warning signs were, and what needs to change going forward.
I also work with people who are doing well but want support staying that way. Long-term sobriety has its own set of challenges that don't get talked about enough.
Focus areas can include:
Group therapy offers something individual sessions can't — the experience of working through addiction alongside others who understand it firsthand. Groups are kept small and structured, with a focus on honesty, compassion, accountability, and the kind of perspective that only comes from peers.
Groups meet weekly. If you're already in individual therapy with me, group can run alongside it. It can also be a standalone option for people who are further along in their recovery and looking for continued support.
I offer independent clinical supervision for licensed social workers and counselors working toward licensure or seeking ongoing professional development. While supervision is provided by your direct agency, it often falls short of what is needed. Independent clinical supervision can provide a safe environment to grow professionally. As an independent supervisor I draw on thirty years of direct clinical experience across inpatient, outpatient, and private practice settings. I have been teaching addiction studies in higher education for 25 years.
I work with supervisees on case conceptualization, clinical decision-making, countertransference, and the particular challenges of doing addiction work over time — including burnout, boundary management, and maintaining clinical effectiveness with a difficult population.
Useful when ambivalence is the problem — when part of you wants to stop and part of you doesn't. MI helps you sort through that without pressure or lectures.
Looks at the thinking patterns and situations that trigger use and builds concrete alternatives. Practical, structured, and backed by decades of research in addiction treatment.
Particularly helpful when emotions are a major driver of use. Distress tolerance and regulation skills that give you something real to reach for in a hard moment.
A lot of addiction has trauma underneath it. We don't have to lead with that — but I never lose sight of it, and I won't push you into territory you're not ready for.
An action-based method that uses role play and structured enactment to help people explore and process experiences that are difficult to reach through talk alone.
Focuses on present-moment awareness and the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behavior. Helps clients recognize patterns and take ownership of their experience.
